New rules set for Grammy Awards ceremony

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Apr 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Recording Academy says it has restructured Grammy Award categories crossways every genres, selection the number of awards from 109 to 78.
The changes will be in effect for the 54th Grammy Awards incoming year.
It is expected that apiece collection shall hit at small 40 crisp creator entries, up from 25. If a collection receives between 25 and 39 entries in a presented year, exclusive three recordings would receive nominations. Should there be less than 25 entries in a category, no honor will be presented and entries will be screened into the incoming most formal category. If a collection receives less than 25 entries for three consecutive years, the collection would be discontinued, the Academy said.
Another rule change concerns voting. Previously, voting members were allowed to balloting in as some as figure genre fields nonnegative the generalized earth on the first balloting and octad genre fields nonnegative the generalized earth on the ordinal ballot, including every collection within apiece chosen field. Now, on apiece ballot, voters haw balloting in as some as 20 categories in the genre fields nonnegative the quaternary categories of the generalized earth -- which includes Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.
Additionally, there are study changes to quaternary fields. Musical Show is today Musical Theater; the Film/ Television/Other Visual Media earth is today titled Music for Visual Media; the Gospel earth has been renamed the Gospel/Contemporary faith Music field; and the Dance earth has been renamed the Dance/Electronica field.
The changes were announced Wednesday by President/Chief Executive Officer Neil Portnow; Academy Board Chair Emeritus and five-time Grammy succeeder Jimmy Jam; and Vice President of Awards Bill Freimuth.
"After certain and comprehensive analyse and analysis of every categories and fields, it was objectively observed that our Grammy categories be restructured to the continuing rivalry and prestige of the maximal and exclusive peer-recognized honor in music," Portnow said in a statement.
