'Songs' raises $5M for Japanese Red Cross

NEW YORK, May 5 (UPI) -- Sales of the compilation CD "Songs For Japan" hit upraised $5 meg for Japan seism and Pacific wave relief, Legacy Recordings said.

Proceeds from the medium are being donated to the Asian Red Cross Society, which is providing comfort to those strained by March's devastating seism and wave in Japan.

More than 500,000 digital and physical copies of "Songs For Japan" hit been sold.

The medium includes tracks by Evangelist Lennon, U2, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, churchman Mars, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, king Guetta, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen,

Josh Groban, Keith Urban, Negroid Eyed Peas, Pink, Cee Lo Green, Lady Antebellum, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, R.E.M., Nicki Minaj, Sade, archangel Buble, Justin Bieber, Adele, Enya, Elton John, Evangelist Mayer, Queen, Kings Of Leon, Sting, Leona Lewis, Ne-Yo, Shakira and Norah Jones.

The participating songwriters, achievement labels, penalization publishers and iTunes hit waived their royalties and proceeds to ensure that the JRCS receives as such support as doable from this initiative, Legacy said in a programme promulgation Wednesday.
